PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

 Everyone lost something in the fire, or rather everyone benefitted from the fire.

In things we lost in fire,  the private and professional lives of a group of tenants in an historic downtown building is called to account and scrutinized as they relate stories and anecdotes that will gives our audience an in-depth look at the events prior to the fire that ravished their lives. 

TALENT NEEDED

(All the roles demands a strong comedic timing to balance the otherwise heavy subject matter)

MS EFFIE BROWN 40's-50's - (ROLE ALREADY FILLED)

(Female) An older woman who owns the building and is the longest tenant. She serves as an advisor and refuge for most of the tenants and is also a long-standing babysitter for most of the kids. Ms. Effie is kind, cool and collected.

THE UNSATISFIED COUPLE

He is from a small town but is now very corporate and fancy and wants to try new things especially in the bedroom. 

 She is also from a small town but unlike her husband is very uncomfortable with her new life and her husbands new attitude but is trying to keep her marriage together.  She wants to save her marriage but is not willing to do ANYTHING. 

THE ABUSER AND HIS WIFE

He is a former soldier who now drinks and physically and verbally abuses his wife. He is very dominant and controlling.

She was once pursuing a very promising career but now has become sad and compliant. She bemoans her lost future and career. She says she wants to leave but stays for they kids, though no one believes her.

THE OFFICER AND HIS WIFE

He is a police officer under investigation after an accidental shooting.  Despite this incident he comes across as loving and kind and shows genuine remorse. 

She is the wife who is unhappy about being caught up in all the police drama and how it is affecting their family. She considers leaving to protect her son and is conflicted. 

THE BUSKER

A struggling teenager trying to raise enough funds to travel to an AGT audition. Her dream is to meet and audition for Simon Cowell. She is the daughter of the abusive couple so needs to be same race. This role requires live singing. The Busker will be singing a cover version of: "We didn't start the fire" by Billy Joel, "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen + another song of their choosing that matches with the theme of the show.

The Voice (ROLE ALREADY FILLED)

The Investigator who is never seen only heard off stage as he interviews the suspects...I mean the survivors. 

WHAT TO PREPARE

Please prepare a monologue (max 2 mins) of your choice and send to contact@promiseproductions.ca along with your resume and headshot.

Subject line of your email should read, Your Name: Fringe Audition. We will stop reviewing submissions once all the roles are filled.

REHEARSAL 

Rehearsals will begin late April. Most of the rehearsal will be done via Zoom but some in person rehearsals will be done closer to show date. Please do not apply if you know already you won't be available for rehearsal or some show dates in July.

COMPENSATION
Payment will be Profit share, under the CAEA Festival Policy. Open to Union and Non-Union actors.

As part of the Fringe policy everybody needs to sign a contract!
